Product Description
Theme : The A Game of Thrones board game (2nd Edition) is based on the best-selling novel series by George R. R. Martin "A Song Of Ice And Fire". Drawing from only the first book of the same name, A Game of Thrones has players take control of one of the great Houses of Westeros to claim the Iron Throne after the death of the last ruler.
Immerse yourself in a game of clever planning, careful allocation of power, diplomacy, and the exciting fantasy world of George R. R. Martin.
The updated second edition brings a host of enhancements to your A Game of Thrones experience. It includes elements from the A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords expansions, including ports, garrisons, Wildling cards, and Siege engines, while introducing new innovations like player screens and Tides of Battle cards. This, along with updated graphics and a clarified ruleset, means the time has never been better to take control of Westeros.
Gameplay (currently for 1st Edition) : A Game of Thrones is a long, strategic combat based war game that focuses on the development of armies and the diplomacy required to win battles in a five way war.
Players start in control of one home region for their House and two adjacent regions where their armies are located. In addition, they receive a sea region where one or two of their ships are placed.
Each turn in A Game of Thrones (there are 10 turns maximum); players resolve Westeros cards (event cards), place orders and resolve orders. The placement and resolution of orders are the most important aspect of the game, where orders for each of their armies dictate the game. All orders during the placement are played face down, offering an opportunity to second-guess and bluff opponents.
There are five types of orders in the game - Raid, March, Defend, Support, and Consolidate Power. Each of these orders allows players to respectively raid other opponents to remove order tokens, march to conquer (and do battle if necessary) other territories, defend against attack, provide support (to own or allied armies) and consolidate power to gain additional power chits.
In addition, the Game of Thrones has a series of influence tracks, with the players on the influence tracks winning appropriate bonuses depending on placement. The placement tracks and event cards both provide additional areas of influence and importance for players, increasing the strategic depth and theme of this board game.
