Product Description

Theme : In Aquaretto, each player is the owner of an aquarium - a water zoo. Each player in Aquaretto can try to lure as many visitors to his aquarium as possible to earn points, but to do so he must have the right mix of animals to draw players. However, his aquarium can only hold so many types of animals and those that can't be housed properly will be placed in a depot, losing him points at game end.

Aquaretto is both a stand-alone game and an expansion of Zooloretto at the same time.

Gameplay : Aquaretto uses a combination of a tile-laying mechanic and set-collection mechanic as per Coloretto. The goal of Aquaretto is to collect as many animals of the same type as possible, generating income from these animals and the various workers throughout the aquarium.

In Aquaretto, players have three choices for their turn - draw a tile to place on a truck, take a truck (and any animals or money on the truck) or take a money action. Once he has taken a truck, he may not do so again till all the trucks are replaced. This follows the mechanic used in Coloretto where players, once they have taken a row, cannot do so till a new round is begun.

Tiles on a truck can either be money tiles or animal tiles. Only three animals can be placed in the zoo at any one time, with animals of different types only allowed to touch on diagonals. Animals that cannot be legally placed in the zoo must be stacked in the depot where they will lose points for a player at the end of the game. This provides an interesting tile-placement aspect to the game that is newly introduced in comparison to Zooloretto.

Money actions offer a variety of additional options including moving works from one role to another, moving an animal from a depot to their zoo for money or expanding the zoo through the purchase of expansion parts.

In keeping with the theme of animals, Aquaretto also has the interesting aspect of 'birthing' where players who collect a male and female of the same species automatically generate a 'baby' tile.

Overall, Aquaretto introduces an interesting new element to Zooloretto if played in conjunction and is slightly more complex if played alone than Zooloretto itself. The introduction of workers and tile placement adds a new level of complexity but is still easy to teach.
