Product Description

Theme : Brass is another popular economic board game creeated by English designer Martin Wallace. Set in 18th century on the cusp of the Industrial Revolution, the players are merchants in the shire of Lancashire.

Play in Brass takes part in two separate ages - that of the 'Canal age' where the canals will provide England's main means of transportation and progresses to the Rail Age. Players will need to develop their ports, cotton mills, foundries and coal mines in an attempt to generate the most money each turn. Just be careful; as money is just the means to the end - Fame!

The second printing includes player mats and a quick start reference sheet to get players into the game quickly.

Gameplay: Brass (2nd Edition) is an economic game that focuses on the development of resources in Lancashire to generate income and victory points. The game is broken into two distinct phases, the Canal and rail age with socring at the end of each phase.

Players receive a hand of cards in brass, each depicting either an industry or a town which they may build. Playing directly into a town or building an industry into a connected town by playing their cards, players will develop their network of industries in an attempt to make them profitable.

Each industry feeds into another - coal makes it possible to build railway lines and many cotton mills while iron is a necessity for developing tokens and ships. In addition, ports will allow cotton mills to actually sell their goods, thus forcing players to plan out a 'chain' of industries to generate income.

Interestingly in Brass, income is not directly related to victory points, adding a new dimension to strategy. Indeed, players must weight the benefit of developing high revenue generating industries like the cotton mill with good victory point sections such as the ships to come out the winner in this game. This is definitely a game that rewards repeated plays like many of Martin Wallace's games.
