Theme : In Carcassonne : Hunters and Gatherers players take on the role of the roaming tribes that inhabit what will be the great city of Carcassonne. Players must guide their tribes carefully to food sources, building huts to gather fish and harvest foods but being careful to avoid the dangerous saber-toothed tigers and other predators awaiting them.
This is a stand-alone game and not an expansion of Carcassonne
Gameplay : Carcassonne : Hunters and Gatherers follows the traditional Carcassonne method of play of tile-placement to create the board. Each turn, players draw and place a tile, deciding to leave their 'meeple'/tribe member on the newly placed tile to harvest or not.
Hunters and Gatherers also introduces a variety of new concepts which were not found in the base Carcassonne game including special tiles that provide unique scoring methods and the addition of a variety of animal types to meadows that will dictate the kind of scores you will receive in the meadow. Additionally, forest tiles have gold nuggets that will add a variable amount of victory points, adding a new layer of complexity to the Hunters and Gatherers game.
