Theme : Carcassonne the Castle brings players into the heart of the city, where the decisions that will affect the City are made. In Carcassonne the Castle, players lay tiles and followers to maximise the city, racing to be the ruler of the city of Carcassonne.
This is a stand-alone game and not an expansion of Carcassonne
Gameplay : Carcassonne the Castle uses the Carcassonne gameplay design of tile and follower-laying to score points. This time, the development is based inside the castle itself, with a few new twists. Firstly, the addition of scoring for the largest keep adds a new race to the game, while the Castle removes most restrictions on tile placement. Followers now are recycled even faster through the game as towers, houses and paths are easier to complete. Lastly, the scoring track has specific 'bonus' wall tiles at specified locations on the track, providing additional benefits to players and adds another twist to the game. Overall, Carcassonne the Castle uses familiar themes but adds Reiner Knizai's own unique design style.
