Product Description
Theme : Build your domain in the Rivals of Catan. The Rivals for Catan puts you in charge of one of the two factions
developing newly-settled Catan. Use your under card mix to create your own principality. Explore and settle new lands, acquiring resources through card play and the luck of the dice. Use gold, response combinations, and trade to develop your domain. Expand your settlements and cities recruit heroes, and defend your lands through politics, invention, and intrigue. Your cunning and a dash of luck decides who will be Prince of Catan.
The Rivals of Catan was formerly known as the Catan Card Game but was updated with revised rules & grapics in 2010.
Gameplay : In the Rivals of Catan Card Game, players each use a series of cards to lay out their initial two settlements. Each settlement is bordered on a diagonal by different land types which will provide resources on a die roll.
Each turn, players roll a pair of dice which dictate the resources that will be developed and the event that will occur. Resources are kept track of by turning cards on the board to indicate the number of 'stored' resources, while events range from tournaments to event cards to windmills.
Players may develop their settlements into cities or play Knights or other buildings vertically in the free space above settlements. Buildings in the Rivals of Catan Card Game range in abilities from monasteries to new ore mines to fleet ships that allow cheaper resource trading.
Unlike the board game, the Rivals of Catan allows players to directly interact with other players through special yellow cards held in the hand. This adds an exciting element of interaction while holding to many of the same strategic and tactical decisions found in the original base game.

The Catan Card game is similar to Settlers of Catan but introduces some interesting elements. Firstly, without a board, players now create their own settlements independent of one another (though everyone draws from the same 'resource' and 'settlement' de Review by TR (Posted on 12/6/08)
