Theme: In Dungeon Lords, you're an upcoming evil Overlord with his very own Dungeon. There's a lot to do though, being the Lord of a dungeon, from attracting imps to hiring and feeding monsters and building traps and new rooms. And of course, there's those pesky adventurers who keep coming in to 'save the townspeople'.
It's a real balancing act, being a Dungeon Lord but if you get too evil too fast, the mighty Paladin might just pay you a visit and destroy everything you've built up.
Gameplay: Dungeon Lords is a strategic Euro game with a ton of theme. Obviously drawing from the PC game Dungeon Keeper, in Dungeon Lords you're in the process of building your own dungeon.
Each turn, you have three orders to give out - two of which won't be usable the next turn. Each order will allow you to hire monsters, gather more imps, get food from the townspeople, mine for gold, build rooms, buy traps and much more. However, there are only three spots and four competing upcoming Dungeonlords, so you'll need to balance what you want with what everyone else is going for.
Played over the course of two years, at the end of every year, players must face the adventurers who have been gathering in town. Luckily, good intelligence will tell you which of the adventurers you will face and so you can plan your traps and monsters for them. However, if you get too evil; the Paladin will come for you himself.
Dungeon Lords is a a great euro game with a moderately difficult level of rules to understand but a high level of strategy and a ton of theme.

As a fan of Dungeon Keeper; I'm tickled pink by the homage to the original PC game; but don't let the 'cute' graphics fool you. There's a serious game here, with quite a lot of thinking required. Review by TR (Posted on 11/28/11)
