Theme : In Elfenland, players have embarked on a journey through the various states of Elfenland. You must make your way through the land visiting the various Elfencities and avoiding the numerous hazards that litter the land. Plan quickly and plan wisely, or you may find you have been left behind.
Gameplay : Elfenland is a travel game where players must work their way across the board, using numerous modes of transportation to visit as many Elfencities as possible.
In Elfenland, players have to manage two different areas - tokens and hand cards. Transportation tokens are drawn each turn to a maximum of 3, with 5 tokens already face-up. These transportation tokens will then be played on the board in the appropriate routes (depending on the tokens and terrain) with only one token (transportation method available) placed on a route a turn.
Hand cards in Elfenland must be discarded in the movement phase, with the cost of each movement differing depending on the type of transportation used as well as any obstacles placed by other players. As players do not need to use the transportation methods placed by themselves to travel, Elfenland is a partially co-operative game. However, with only one transportation method available per route, competition for the most suitable form of transportation for each player can grow fierce.
The victory conditions in Elfenland is dictated by the number of cities visited by the players before the game ends. Additionally, Elfenland does have a basic and advanced rules - with players in an advanced game having a specific random destination they must travel to.
