Theme: Hellas is set in ancient Greece, where the Greek cities waged war over the valuable islands surrounding their state. Now, you take on the role of one of the great Greek cities, attempting to gain control of a dominant number of cities. To do so, you'll need to both wage war as well as explore the surrounding islands of Hellas to win.
Gameplay: Hellas is played on a modular game board using six-sided tiles much like Settlers of Catan. Players in Hellas can place troops (boats and/or men), draw cards, or explore by placing a new tile. Battles are extremely simple, with a maximum number of men (3) in a city possible but you need to exceed the number of men your opponent has to win a battle. As such, you'll need both the influence of the Gods (cards) and clever strategy to consistently win.
In addition, the exploration of new cities in Hellas is all important as not doing so will drag on the game as players attempt to take control of the same region of space constantly.
Hellas is both an area control game and a wargame combination, with the added modular board that allows repeated gameplay.
