Product Description
Theme : Intrigue is a game of diplomacy and treachery. As an owner of a palace of unemployed scholars, you will need to send them to other palaces to be employed. At the same time, you must employ other scholars sent to you - requiring you to make and break promises to ensure your scholars are well employed while not being double-crossed by other players.
Gameplay : Intrigue is a game of pure negotiation. Each player has 4 spaces to employ scholars - each paying a different amount ($1,000, $3,000, $6,000 and $10,000). However, only one scholar may be employed in each location and each palace can only play one type of scholar (there being 4 types). Each player also receives 8 unemployed scholars, 2 of each type.
On their turn, a player receives money for his employed scholars from the other players. Next, they decide who to employ of the applicants. Each player may negotiate a 'bribe' with any other player for the employment of scholars, the minimum bribe being $1,000. Lastly, at the end of his turn, a player must decide to send 2 scholars to other palaces for employment.
Only one scholar can be employed for any one space and only one kind employed - all other scholars who have applied for the same job are discarded for the game if they are considered unemployable. Furthermore, all bribes are paid before a player makes his final decision, allowing for betrayal at any time.
As the main rule in Intrigue is negotiation, players will constantly be back-stabbing one another in an attempt to place their scholars successfully. Only the player with the most amount of money at the end of the game can win, creating a back-stabbing game of fun and negotiation.
