Product Description
Theme : Lost Cities is a game of archeology. Players are on the journey to locate one of five ancient ruins, with the goal of being the one to locate and claim the most finds at these ruins over their rival. Lost Cities is considered one of the best two player games ever designed and one of Reiner Knizia's masterpieces.
Gameplay : Lost Cities is a game of set-collection - much like Gin Rummy with a twist. Cards in the deck depict one (1) of five (5) ancient ruins, numbered from 1 to 10. An additional three (3) investment cards are provided that will double, triple or quadruple your final score (for the better or worst!).
Players in Lost Cities start with a hand of seven (7) cards. Each turn, players must either play a card onto an ancient ruin or discard it to the respective ruin's discard pile. They must then draw a card - either from a different discard pile (if one was used) or the deck.
Cards in a ruin can only be played in ascending order, with investment cards played before any numerical cards. Points at the end of the game are calculated by adding all numerical values on an exploration and then subtracting 20 points for each exploration started. Any multipliers from investment cards are then applied.
As can be seen, Lost Cities requires players to not only manage their hands, they must ascertain what ruins their competitor is exploring and if possible, ensure their competitor cannot gain the cards they require to be successful. While the game mechanics are extremely simple and each turn is finished quickly, the numerous strategies and quick play makes Lost Cities an addictive 2 player game.
