Theme: Mare Nostrum is Serge Laget's Opus Major - his life's achievement. The idea for Mare Nostrum is as simple as it is ambitious: a playable Civilization. Taking place in the Mediterranean, it combines the political, economic and military into a condense, 2 page rulebook that will thrill fans of Civilization.

Gameplay: There are only two pages of rules in Mare Nostrum, with the entire game bursting with clever and simple systems. Victory can be achieved through military conquest, through trade or through diplomacy and politics.

Mare Nostrum is really three games in one; with each section benefiting and aiding the other : politics helps trade, and an army with no economic backup has no real use.

Twenty years of fine tuning makes for what is probably the best one in the numerous family of big games played on a map of the Mediterranean and figuring the politic, military and economic rivalry between the empires of the antiquity.
