Theme : In Medici, you return to the great trading days of Italy where the ships of the Medici controlled trade through the civilized world. Bid for goods to fill your ships for foreign shores in the bid to be the most successful merchant family of them all.
Medici is a reprint of a formerly out-of-print game by Reiner Knizai.
Gameplay : Like most Reiner Knizai games, Medici is a simple game of bidding. Each turn, players draw a tile from the bag - tiles having a variety of colors and values from 1 to 5. They have the option to draw up to 3 tiles a turn and once they have finished this 'lot', it is open for bidding. Bidding is won through the use of victory points (your wealth).
In Medici, players continue to create lots and bid on them till all the players holds are filled up, at which points points are scored by value. They then move their scores on the main table up and the winner and runner-up of the round wins additional gold to use next round. There are also bonus points to be scored at this stage.
