Product Description
Theme : Pillars of the Earth is based on the bestselling book by Ken Follet, reproducing the struggle by Prior Phillip of Kingsbridge to create the most beautiful cathedral in England. Players take on the task of builders, competing against one another and catastrophes while maximizing the use of their workmen and resources to construct the Cathedral. A fast paced game of resource management and building like Caylus, Pillars of the Earth is definitely one of the best recently released board games.
Gameplay In Pillars of the Earth, players take on the role of builders who are each provided a specific number of workers, master builders and craftsmen. They must allocate these resources each turn to gain the most number of victory points to be the one who contributed the most to the building of the cathedral.
At the beginning of each round (there are 6 rounds), players may purchase upgraded craftsmen or allocate their workers to gather resources each turn from the quarry, forests or gravel pit. As players take turns choosing their actions (dictated by resource cards), each player must weigh their options as they continue.
Play then moves towards the beautifully designed game board where master builders are drawn from a bag. Players can pay gold to allocate their master builders immediately or wait, with multiple options available on the game board for the master builders to influence including gaining event cards, tax exemptions, new craftsmen and additional workers for the next turn.
Once all master builders are allocated, the game board is resolved according to their numbers, with players being affected by events, gaining resources and being taxed at this stage. Lastly, players will attempt to use their craftsmen to convert the various resources to victory points.
The player with the most victory points at the end of the game will be the winner of Pillars of the Earth
