Theme : Medieval Merchants places players towards the end of the Middle Ages where rich merchant families expanded across the cities of Europe, linking the various countries in the bonds of trade and commerce. By offering gold and the opportunity to buy exotic trade goods, the merchants convinced the closed cities to open themselves for trade with the rest of the world.
Beginning with their homes in small villages, players open branches in nearby cities. Once branches are established, players use their profits to increase their wealth or to increase their presence in the cities where they have branches. Players then can use their wealth to further develop their trading empire into new cities and regions.
Gameplay : In Medieval Merchants, players are building trade routes between medieval cities. The cities themselves have a variable number of spaces for players to occupy with their control markers, and getting an absolute majority in a city scores victory points. But in order to expand your empire to new cities and territories, you will need to forgo your would-be dominance in a city for greater profits in the long run. At the end of the game, the most victory points wins.
