Theme : Primordial Soup allows players to control a culture of amoebas at the dawn of life on Earth. You will need to evolve each turn as the nutrients in the soup deplete, with evolutionary capabilities including more co-ordinated movement, aggressiveness, etc. The player who most successfully grows and evolves his culture will win.
Gameplay : Primordial Soup is a top-rated game of evolution. At the start of the game, players place two cubes of every colour in each square on the grid board. Players then take turns placing two amoeba in any location on the board, with the first amoeba taking a damage marker.
Turns in Primordial Soup are made up of six different rounds. These rounds include move and feed, environment changes (indicators of where the current flows and any genes that must be discarded), new genes (where players may evolve their amoebas), cell division (new amoebas), amoebas die (where amoebas that have taken too much damage die) and scoring.
Overall, Primordial Soup is a middle-weight strategy game that has an interesting theme with a variety of strategic choices at each turn. Players will have to manage their resources and their amoebas while being careful to reach the 42 points necessary to win the game.
