Theme : With Puerto Rico, you find yourself in the New World in control of a vast plantation and city. You must plan carefully if you are to succeed, managing and growing your crops - Corn, Indigo, Coffee, Sugar, and Tobacco while making good use of your colonists. To win, you will need to load and sell your crops in Europe. To add additional intrigue to the game, each turn you take on a new role - Mayor, Captain, Settler, Trader, Prospector, Craftsman, or Builder with their own special abilities that will make or break you. With multiple avenues of winning, Puerto Rico is a complex and intriguing game that has won multiple awards and received rave reviews.
Gameplay : In Puerto Rico, players begin each round in a new role, gaining the privileges associated with the role. However, their role choice also allows every other player to take the role's secondary action.
A role choice in a turn of Puerto Rico will allow players to add plantations, introduce colonists to work on those plantations and buildings, choose among the buildings available to increase productivity, produce and sell goods and export produce.
With multiple avenues to winning and a variety of strategies available make Puerto Rico probably one of the most intriguing board games in recent history.
