Theme : The Gathering Storm Expansion for Race for the Galaxy is the first expansion to this popular science-fiction card game and adds a host of new features including beefing up the rebel and alien worlds (the Gathering Storm).
Gameplay: The Gathering Storm expansion adds a host of new cards, from start worlds that provide a fresh look at strategies and a host of other cards including more alien and rebel worlds to develop upon.
In addition, players now have a series of common goal cards to aim for that will provide victory points at the end of game. These cards come in two forms - cards that reweard players who achieve a specific goal first (e.g. a specific number of victory points, special abilities, etc.) and the lead player for specific goals (e.g. most number of settled worlds, most military, etc.).
Combined with the base game, the Gathering Storm expansion adds a new layer of strategy that will make it hard to go back to the original.
The first expansion also includes solitaire rules for players and some blank cards and a contest card. Two card slots have been left open in the second expansion for the winners.
