- A fun, medium strategy game with an interesting twist of resource management Review by TR
-
At first glance, Giants is very much a resource management game in the vein of Stone Age and PIllars of the Earth. Players get their tribe members, a chief and a sorcerer who are all used to gain and manipulate resources. While prettier than most board games, with Moais and Headdresses galore and individual tribes, it seems to be very similar.Price Value Quality
However, upon playing, Giants begins to show it's differences. While resource management is important, it's the use of other players tribe members in transporting and constructing your Moais is even more important. The conga line of tribe members will both gain you points and push you ahead, where a semi-cooperative game play akin to the trading in Settlers of Catan begins to appear.
This is a medium weight strategy game that plays quite fast after set-up, though the fiddlyness of the pieces might detract for some players. Overall, it's definitely a game to consider adding to your collection. (Posted on 3/25/09)
