A New Clue For A New Generation Review by Roxette's Look

I am a nostalgic game player, so I typically like to own the original versions of the games that I play. That said, Clue Reinvention (Clue: Discover the Secrets) is quite the treat that you and your family will love. Clue Reinvention is a game of “who done it”, and deduction. A family fun version of a mystery and murder dinner party. While I prefer the original version of Clue/Cludeo because of its old world charm, and majestic feeling that the design inspires; the new one with which has contemporized the game is still a delight.

This game is a play off the original design with few obvious changes. You still have 10 rooms which includes the kitchen, the dining room and the hall. The ballroom, conservatory, cellar, billiard room, library, lounge and study have been replaced with a patio, spa, pool, theatre, living room, guest house, and observatory. The layout is nice and still recognizable, but there is one particular flaw with the design. The Patio. Every other room has clearly marked doorways and entry ways. Not the patio which has replaced the ballroom. For the entire first game we were entering and exiting in the wrong area, and that does make a difference when you roll a 12 or a 8!

Apart from that small flaw I did enjoy the details in the rooms, and the updated feel. They have also included a new weapon – a trophy so that was pretty neat as well. In the previous version the game characters were only referred to as Mr/Miss/Mrs Last Name. In this version they get first names, as well as a small character bio which I thought was nice. They also have a “super power” which really amps up the volume in the game play.

*Reverend Green is now Jacob Green, a go-to guy "with all the ins".

*Jack Mustard is no longer a Colonel but instead, a former football player.

*That’s Mrs. Eleanor Peacock to you young sir, is a manners freak from a political family.

*Professor Plum is now Victor Plum, a billionaire video game designer.

*Miss Scarlett is Kasandra Scarlet, a famous actress often featured in tabloids.

|*Mrs White seeks fame as Diane White, an ex-child star seeking the spotlight.

The game play and rules has also changed a little. While the rules generally remain the same, they have introduced a new concept with their intrigue cards. These cards are broken down into Keepers and Clocks. The keepers, allows your character to do game specific tasks that will give you an edge to winning. The clocks – not so much. There are 8 clocks in the game. And it is your job to keep track of them. Drawing the first 7 clocks will do nothing adversely to you, but draw the 8th and it’s game over, your character is killed off. You still get to participate in the general clue activities, and other players can ask what cards you have but you are no longer in the running to solve- and THAT can be a major blow if you were a round away from solving. This also makes it more intense because you make people pick up intrigue cards which could be clocks, because the rules states that every time you move a piece to another room they get intrigue card. So it could help them or it kills them.

Overall this game is good value for dollar and will become a crowd pleaser. Who knows, maybe it will become childhood favourite for your children or new family classic.
