Great game for groups Review by Melinda

A great game for groups of people. The game is hilarious and fun and can be easily played with just a few, or large numbers of people. With simple straight forward rules it is easy to get started. This game of comparison often gets side tracked in hilarious ways as people choose the answers that appeal most to them, not necessarily those that are 'most right'. Always a hit. (Posted on 5/14/12)
kids and family gatherings and critical thinking skills too Review by eliza

This is a great game for family game night or family gatherings.

I have played this game with groups ages 6 to 60 and *everyone* is engaged. The kids get caught up in teasing the parents, the grandparent get caught up in teasing the parents and the parents get caught up teasing each other. It is amazing to watch children process the cards and the people at the table, and see the combinations they come up with. Don't be surprised if they win, without your help!

It does get old if played too often but younger people don't have that problem (I gave my first set away after we had played it 6 times, and the kids were NOT happy). Just don't join in every game that the kids start.

Always good for a laugh, regardless of group Review by Lane

This is a very simple game to explain and just start playing, and very easy to take on the go (just bring the cards).

Sometimes picking the most random out-to-left-field choices end up getting you points and almost always lead to a lot of laughing.

I do wish that there were more blank cards included so that you could make your own.

Either way, a fun light game that you can keep playing longer than is suggested and could even turn into a full-night game. If not, it can be a less than 30 minute game with hardly any setup and explanation. (Posted on 9/16/10)
Depends on the Group Review by Wasgo

Apples to Apples is an affordable alternative to many of the overplayed party games such as Cranium or Trivial Pursuit. The game relies on players convincing each other about the best answer. This is where the quality of the game varies.

With the right group, Apples to Apples can be one of the most fun party games to play, with everyone throwing out hilarious reasons why their answer is the best. With the wrong group, it becomes almost strategic, with player choosing answers based on trying to win, and group dynamics becomes too much of a factor.

Overall, this is a fun game, but don't expect that it will work with every group. If people aren't having fun, scrap it for the night and play something else. Everyone will be much happier.

Good party game, but gets boring if you play it too much Review by Jasmine

I enjoy this game quite a bit, especially with a larger group that can play it casually and hold conversations on the side. However, if you play it too frequently, the game can get quite bland as familiar cards will come up again and again.

Custom cards and rule variations are good to keep the game fairly new, but don't expect to be able to play this day-in and day-out during long vacations.

Still, the game is easy to learn and does not require too much difficult thinking, which means that kids can play just as well as adults and rounds should play out fairly quickly.

The only thing that might be annoying is the judging, as they may make objectional choices. However, you can argue a case for particular cards (that's encouraged) and, if you lose, you really can only blame yourself for not knowing your friends better. (Posted on 11/5/09)
A great pick up game for parties Review by Murray

Apples to Apples is a great game to introduce to casual crowds because it is easy to learn and anyone can win the game easily.

Like most party games, there is inherent humor built into the game. However, unlike most party games, this humor is revealed just by playing the game and does not require people to come up with silly thoughts themselves or require them to embarass themselves in anyway. For this reason, it is a favourite game for many of my more shy and quiet friends.

The game comes with a good number of variations that you can try out to various degrees of success. As well, there are many blank green and red cards for you to introduce your own brand of humor if you wish.

I only wish that there was a 2/3 player and 8+ player variant. As well, managing the cards and trying to avoid the same cards in consecutive games is difficult. Some external system of card management is recommended. As well, some cards refer to times, events, or people that younger people may not be familiar with. Luckily, there are many many cards included in the base set, so you can just remove these cards before playing. (Posted on 9/8/09)
Quick, simple and alot of FUN!!! Review by Anthony Santiago

If you are looking for a game that is very light on rules but extremely fun for gamers & non-gamers look no further than Apples to Apples.

A play turn goes as such:

The judge chooses a green apple card and reads it.

Each player will play a card from their hand (of red apples) that they feel closely matches the judges card.

The judge will mix those cards (as not to know who's played what card) chooses one. The player who's card is chosen receives that green apple card as a point.

Play passes to the next player. Rinse and repeat.

The things I really like about this game are a) you don't need to be a trivia buff b) it's not intimidating for non-gamers & children ( with at least a grade 2 reading level) and c) it is very quick to play.

The other thing that I enjoy is all the table chatter that ensues as players try to convince the judge to pick (or not) a particular card and then after the judge makes his/her decides, players want to know why one card was chosen over the other.

It is a fabulous game to pull out after a night of heavy gaming or at a dinner party. (Posted on 12/18/08)
