- A must have Review by KR

In my opinion if you're only going to buy one expansion for Carcassonne than buy the Inns & Cathedrals expansion. It is by far the best expansion for the game and adds some nice game mechanics. I don't even consider it an expansion anymore when I play, but a part of the base game.Price Value Quality
If you place a thief on a road that has an inn on it you get double points for the completed road; however, if your road goes unfinished by the end of the game than you get no points at all.
If you complete a city that has a cathedral piece in it than you get 3 points per city piece and pennant icon as opposed to the 2 points. From personal experience, cathedrals can also be used to hinder your opponents completion of a large city. This can be a gamble, however, because if they do end up being lucky and completing the city they could score a ton of points.
As I said, if you're only going to be getting one expansion for Carcassonne than make sure it's this one. (Posted on 12/15/11) - Sixth Player and More Options Review by Jacques

As has already been said above this is a great expansion. This is the only one which comes with a set of followers to add a sixth player to the fun, which by itself is pretty awesome.Value Quality Price
The added inns and cathedrals add some great opportunities to make points, or perhaps take a risk on lots of points that may or may not work out. With an inn a road suddenly becomes quite valuable, but make sure you finish it before the game is over or else you get nothing. If you like to sneak your way onto other player's things, then the big follower which is worth 2 will be very useful to you.
The added rules are quite simple and easy to teach. For the same reason this expansion does not add as much to the game as some other expansions which really do add some new and different rules.
Enjoy! (Posted on 6/22/11) - Mandatory Review by Jason

I no longer play Carcasonne with out this expansion. It's simple, adds very few cards, but varies the strategy and opens the game up a lot.Price Value Quality
The game is more fun & more competitive with this expansion.
If you have Carcasonne.... this is a must buy! (Posted on 2/24/11) - Gathering points for roads and cities Review by Brian

The ability to play with 6 players gives a new dynamic to the game.Price Value Quality
The addition of the inn on the lake and the cathedral are good for collectors of points, giving you more points when completing cities and roads but also making you want to finish the feature before the end of the game or you are out of luck.
The addition of the large follower also helps when you are trying to “steal” someone’s farm, city or road. This one is almost a must due to the vast uses of the large follower and the possibility of a 6th player.

When I teach new people to play Carcassonne, I always have this expansion including in their first game. In fact, most of my friends don't believe me that it as even an expansion after they play more and more.Price Value Quality
The rules are not very complicated, but add a lot of offense and defense to this game. Yes you can double your own cities or roads, but you can also add an Inn or Cathedral to your opponent's super-long road or giant city. Then drop a few tiles that make it hard for them to complete it, then they get nothing at the end of the game, and they have lost a follower or three on that zero-point structure.
Play with this expansion all the time (Posted on 9/21/10) - Highly recommended for Carcassonne lovers Review by Murray

This is one of the expansions that I highly recommend to anyone who has enjoyed their set of Carcassonne at any time. Carcassonne by itself is like an introduction to the game and this expansion, along with Traders & Builders make a complete game that can be played at intermediate and advanced levels. Without the extra rules and tiles from these expansions, Carcassonne can get a bit plain. However, with these expansions, Carcassonne will no doubt register a lot of play hours.Price Value Quality
With Inns & Cathedrals comes the large meeple, which adds one more token to your pool. You can use it to claim points like with any other meeple but the large meeple is worth two claims. This won't add any points to the score you earn, but it will help to prevent others from stealing or sharing your hard earned points. Likewise, the large meeple is great to use for stealing as it usually does take quite a lot of luck and effort to just share points, but the usage of the large meeple adds a bit more strategical and tactical depth to the game.
As well, there are new tiles in this game, which should help lengthen the usually short Carcassonne game. There are new tiles that can double the score of completed roads or cities. However, if the road or city is not completed before the end of the game, then they score no points. This also adds a layer of strategy to the game as you must do some risk management in using these tiles on yourself to gain points or on your opponent to prevent them from gaining points.
The quality of the components, like with all Carcassonne products, is excellent. All components are durable and will last through many games. For anyone who has enjoyed Carcassonne, I highly recommend this expansion. (Posted on 12/20/08)
