- Adds some more competition Review by KR
-
The King and Scout expansion is not really a necessary expansion to get but it is fun and it does add some more competition to the game. Generally when playing Carcassonne you're always trying to build long roads and big cities, this expansion just adds a bonus. The player that builds the largest city obtains the King piece, and the player that builds the longest road obtains the Robber piece. If another player ends up building a larger city or a longer road than they get to steal the corresponding title. The player with the king piece at the end of the game scores 1 point for every completed city and the player with the robber piece at game end scores 1 point for every completed road.Value Quality Price
One thing that confused me a bit about this expansion is that it comes with tiles for the Hunters and Gatherers which is a completely different Carcassonne game altogether. I feel that this should be a completely separate expansion for its own game. Not the biggest deal but its just a little strange. Ok, yes there are some new tiles... GOODPrice Value Quality
Yes there are new rules for having big cities and road.... OK
Fairly cheap little stocking stuffer.... GOOD
Is it an expansion that you'll always play with? Maybe, maybe not.... It's a small addition, and it does promote larger structures, which lead to some fun competition. However, don't put all your eggs in one basket with that move either.
All in all, it's hard to write a bad review about a cheap tiny expansion.... Nothing great, nothing bad, it just is (Posted on 9/21/10) - Fun Little Addition Review by David

King and Scout is an excellent little addition to Carcassonne. I really enjoy the King and Robber Baron tiles as an interesting strategic reward for completing the biggest city or the longest road. I had always enjoyed trying to make the biggest city on the board (whether or not that was actually the best for winning!), and so the additional point for every city that has been completed is an excellent bonus. We had read about this rule before buying the expansion and had implemented it, but the cool looking tiles for the King and Robber Baron are much better.Value Quality Price
In addition, there are some fun new pieces to add to the game, including a fun piece that has one city going over another. This particular box also comes with some tiles that only work for the hunter and gatherer rules. I don't have that expansion, so they'll be sitting in the box for now.
Not a hugely necessary expansion, but the more tiles the merrier for me and for those people who are a fan of complete games, you should definitely pick this up for a few dollars! (Posted on 10/19/09)
