Excellent Adventure boardgame Review by mrqwerty

This game is one of my favorites so far. It can be played with 2-4 players, but one player has to be the "dungeon master" who controls the monsters and sets of the board as the other players explore.

Playing as a player, your basic goal is to get from the starting area to the exit room and survive. Just like in any doom game, you start in a room, and as you open doors new areas are revealed to you by the dungeon master. All monsters spawn out of direct line of site of the players as cards are drawn and played by the dungeon master, this is to make it so monsters don't suddently appear next to the player. Also just like doom, you are able to pop out from behind a corner shoot then hide back behind the corner, this technigue works well as you stay out of direct line of sight of the monsters. Also just like doom, you can find armour, health, weapons and ammo, as well as keycards to open locked doors. The weird thing about being a player is that you can die and respawn which kinda pulls the immersion out of the game, and when players die a total of 7 times, the dungeon master wins.

The components are extremely high quality, and it comes with TONS of miniature monsters. You will have a great time painting all these monsters. The colors of each monsters doesn't actually matter from what I can tell, it is basically used as a quick count and placement. There are a lot of board pieces and tokens and you can create your dungeon as you see fit or use the included scenarios. In fact there is so much stuff, it is hard to get all the pieces back into the box without crushing the figurines.

The 1st included scenarios is extremely hard for the player. You should go onto the Fantasy Flight Games website and download the basic scenario and play that one first to get your players familiar with the system, so they won't feel so bad when they lose a lot in the first scenario.

This game is a fantastic game for a bunch of friends who has a few hours to kill. the game looks awesome when all the pieces are painted, it feels just like playing a coop doom game with strategy.
