- A worthwhile addition Review by KR

While Dixit 2 is not necessarily needed if you own the original Dixit, it's definitely a welcome expansion. It doesn't add anything to the original rules but the added cards are just as good and abstract as the original, and you can't complain about that! If you have bought this expansion you likely own the original game, although this does have all of the elements you would need to play a full game except the game board for keeping score. This game is played by a player who is designated the 'story teller' say a few words about a card and everyone will throw in a card that somehow resembles that descriptor. The new cards in this expansion are beautifully illustrated and make a great addition to the game. I do find that the hardest prerequisite to having a great game of dixit or dixit 2 is finding 6 creative and imaginative people. Dixit2 adds a whole extra deck of beautiful cards to the game, doubling the size of the deck and, thus, the length of the game. Of course, you can mix and match to your own preference and adjust the length of your games that way.Value Quality Price
Although Dixit2 is technically a standalone game, without a score board or tokens, it requires a bit of effort to play. You can use a handful of dice instead of the tokens in order to indicate which card you are betting on and do something else for the scoring.
Seeing how the price isn't that much different from the base game, I would say get the base game first and see if you like it. If you do and feel that the game is too short, or needs more variety, then get this expansion. (Posted on 4/16/10)
