In this base set you get two miniature armies a board tokens and a deck of cards. Basically, it is a scenario based re-enactment of world war 2. I am not usually a big fan of scenario based games, I believe it strains the replay value of the game. But in this case I found it interesting, with the card and dice mechanics this game as a lot of luck and some strategic depth.Price Value Quality
I would recommend this to most people who enjoy miniature base warfare but don't want to spend hours learning rules or assembling their army. The game is quick, clever and simple. (Posted on 6/14/10) - Classic Light Wargame Review by Alex

It's Just Fun.Value Quality Price
Memoir 44 is not really a great war game, or even a "war game" as such at all. It's really a hand management game with amazing WW2 theme. This is a beautiful game, with massive, modular hexes and dozens of highly detailed plastic minis. It's a joy just to take out and look at.
Thankfully the game itself is also really fun. it is extremely straightforward with few variations on a couple of basic mechanics. This isn't bad, as it forces you to focus on managing terrain and most importantly managing your hand. The game only allows you to move units based on the cards available in your hand at a given time, so if you have no cards capable of moving forward your massive attack up the left flank, you're stuck. This can be frustrating, but seems to mimic the unpredictability and "friction" of war pretty well. It's not an accurate portrayal of WW2 by any means, but it is tactical, interesting, and It's Just Fun. (Posted on 3/28/10) - The game that got me into tabletop and board games Review by Louis

This is an excellent game. Hands down, this is the best two player board game I have played in recent memory. It is quick and easy to set up and play a game, and it is very enjoyable.Value Quality Price
It has plenty of replay value due to the special rules and the number of scenarios (both in box and community developed), as well, it's always interesting to play a battle from the other point of view. The simplicity of the game allows it to be learned quickly, and each scenario gets your units into action quickly. Turns are fast, so play is well balanced between both sides. While strategy plays a large part of each scenario, there is still some chance involved when rolling dice or drawing cards, so scenarios can always go either way.
Online support for this game is fantastic and the outlook for this game system is excellent. The Days of Wonder team has created an online scenario editor, so different campaigns and scenarios are always being developed by the user community. In addition, many expansions for the game have been created, which continue to add playability and depth to the game. A number of "house rules" have also been created by players who want to tweak the game and put a refreshing "spin" on certain aspects of the game, these can be found online as well.
Overall, an excellent action packed war game with replay value and many expansions that promise to keep the game fresh. (Posted on 3/27/10) - Not your typical War game... Review by Radshaw

This is probably my favorite 2 player game. It can be played with 4 with expansions but it excells as a shorter 2 player type.Quality Price Value
Many different terrain tiles make this modular board and future games different from the last. As well as more boards and tiles are available in expansions as well as airplanes. Much gaming goodness!
Sure it can be a little chancy with the dice rolling deciding outcomes but there definitely is stragedy to see what the best place to attack or defend is. Oh and did I mention that for all you military history buffs, every scenario gives a brief synopsis of the situation with the actual outcome of the battle.
Overall, Memoir '44 surpases that common military game from the 80's that ryhmes with Whisk. Enjoy.
