I like this game very much. It takes a bit of reading to follow some of it, but once you get it, it is lots of fun. I find that we don't use the cathedral pieces - they are irrelevant and probably there only to give the game it's name. They can be used to mark the turns, but there are much easier ways with the cards.

I like the number of choices that are in the game - it really means that you have to strategize every turn. A good game. (Posted on 8/24/11)

In the pillars of the earth you must contribute the most to the construction of the great cathedral. To do that you must gathers the best artisans and accumulate resources. the player who amassed the most points wins the game.

I loved this game, for the first 10 games. After a while you feel like you get the same things happening again and again. Re playability is weak in my personnel opinion. But it is a good game, and it is gorgeous also. I recommend for occasional gamers. (Posted on 12/14/10)

The rule book repeats itself in some places but once you get past that its a simple and fun experience
Your first game will take roughly 2hours due to people getting the hang of things.
One you start to plan ahead the game moves much faster

If you like strategy then this game is for you!

Pillars of the Earth was definitely a great game for 2008, a game with medium to heavy stragetic depth and a series of choices. Because the game was broken into multiple parts (choosing your craftsman, placing your workers, the master builder development and then resolution phase), the game was highly involved but downtime was quite fast.

While fans of the book would note the lack of tie-in to the theme, others looking to enjoy the gameplay will thoroughly get this game. It's certainly one of the better Euro strategy games out there. (Posted on 3/25/09)
