- Great playing game Review by Grapes

My wife and I decided to buy this flavor of the rails games and it has proved to be extremely fun. The initial play is a little slow as you decide where to build your first routes and it seems to me whoever does best with their first three routes is able to progress much quicker with upgrades and building out among the map. Everyone speaks about the length of the game however we never noticed. We just got caught up. The end of the game was anti-climatic because the truly fun part is loading, delivering, and figuring out the multi-pickups and drop offs. It's fun to manage your rail system. The randomness of the cards and event cards can really affect play, I laughed when my vital loads that would be put me in the lead were washed away in a freak flood. The only rule we didn't follow was the moving at half speed after leaving a ferry. It didn't make sense at all and penalized any delivery or pickup from the islands. We always play the slow way, meaning we start with the base locomotives in the game and it's still fun. My wife has won every game and she loves the game. So do I.Quality Price Value
The quality is a little suspect as the game comes with crayons and poor plastic pieces for the locos. I bought a sheet of acrylic or whatever you call it to lay over the map and some dry erase markers. The time always flies during gameplay so don't let the expected game time throw you. This game is fun. It's what "Ticket to Ride" should have been. If the drawing and running the rails remotely interests you, then buy this game. (Posted on 12/2/08)
