Having fallen head over heels for the Hannibal Rome VS Carthage card driven board game, I became enamoured of the time period and players involved and I was on the hunt for more. I found it in Commands & Colors: Ancients.Value Quality Price
C&C:A is a card driven board game which deals with the specific battles in Hannibal's quest to conquer Rome.
What's unique about this system is that your cards (or commands) allow you to activate certain units at a time. This makes battles a little precarious, for example, you may have units on the right flank unable to move if the applicable command isn't available. Combat is more or less straight forward. A unit attacking rolls the symbol-laden dice and scores hits if the symbols of the opposing units are rolled. The rolls will also determine if that unit retreats or loses a leader.
There are numerous scenarios to reenact and the victory conditions change are different for each one, so there is high replayability and each scenario lasts about an hour.
I freakin' love this game and if you have an interest in the Punic Wars or just enjoy games with strategy and tactics in an historical context, you cannot go wrong with Commands & Colors: Ancients.
