Pretty good game, but could use a bit more oomph Review by Murray

Fairy Tales is a decent game with some depth and interaction. However, ever since I first played the game with an incorrect interpretation of the rules, I had always felt like it had the potential to be more amazing.

The heart of the game is the drafting mechanism. At the start of every round, players are dealt five cards and can only pick one of them to keep for themselves. They then hand the rest of the cards to the player to the right and pick another card to keep from the cards that were given to them from the player on the left. This continues on until all the cards are "drafted" and each player has five cards.

Players then chooses one card to play and reveals them all at the same time. This is done three times and the remaining two cards are discarded. The process is repeated four times and then points are calculated.

Some cards have a base value, like 6 or 3. Other cards have a variable value that will depend on how many of another card the player has. Thus, when drafting and playing cards, players must look at their own cards and other player's cards in order to get the best for themselves while preventing others from getting good cards.

Some cards have effects that come up when they are revealed. Some will flip over cards, nullifing their points and effects. Others will unflip cards or flip cards of other players. Most cards can only flip your own cards, which severely limits the interaction during the playing of cards. When I played it wrong, we flipped over each other's cards and it was quite fun. I might still do a variant of the game and adjust the points of the cards accordingly.

When played with 4 or 5 players, this is a great game. With less players, because not all cards are played, it becomes more restrictive.

Still, it's a simple game and plays really quickly. Once players get the hang of it, you can play games in 15 minutes or so. It has pretty good replay value and I would not mind recommending it to people. (Posted on 4/16/10)
Fun and quick game Review by Thomas

This is a nice game that is quick to play and quick to learn. The rules are straight forward and fairly easy to understand.
It's a great game because it is so short, you can play a few rounds before starting a longer game or while in a restaurant waiting for food. For the price and fun factor, this game is a worth while addition to any game library. (Posted on 11/5/09)
Fairy Tale is a light card drafting game that is great filler for groups of 3 to 5 players. With some depth, this card game plays fast and provides a good start to any gaming evening. Review by TR

Fairy Tale is a light card drafting game that is great filler for groups of 3 to 5 players. Players receive 5 cards initially, and must choose one, passing their card on to the next player and choosing the next card after that. Once all cards have been chosen, players will have to decide to play 3 of the 5 cards in their hand.

With the ability to 'know' what other players have in their hand, and a guesstimate to the kind of cards they will use, play will then get vicious during this phase as each player attempts to gain as much points as possible while reducing the overall points of their opponents.

With only 4 rounds per game, each game lasts roughly between 30 - 60 minutes depending on the game group and size, making this a light tactical filler. There's sufficient depth in this game to suit most players, but its light enough to introduce to newbies too. (Posted on 8/12/09)
