- A perfect gateway to fantasy boardgaming Review by Christian

Talisman: Fourth Edition is a perfect updating of a classic board game to the modern era.Price Value Quality
Fantasy Flight Games have done a tremendous job of updating this game, which far exceeds the previous editions of the game both in terms of design and the rules, which have been vastly improved upon.
Furthermore, if you've never played a board game before, or you haven't played one since you were a child, then Talisman is the perfect game to reintroduce you to the hobby of board gaming (provided you don't mind a little bit of luck). This game is EASIER to teach than Monopoly, but is far more rewarding.
Recommended expansions:
1. The Reaper
2. The Dungeon
3. The Dragon
Pros:
Brilliant and beautiful game design
High quality components
Feel of an epic fantasy adventure in just 2 or 3 hours
Cons:
Luck-based game play may turn some players off who are hoping for a more strategic game

I bought this game after it looked decent and I had a gift card, but I should have just banked the GC.Price Value Quality
The game gets so repetitive as you level-up just so you can beat the game.
Eventually I found out some different rules designed to speed up the game, but it just makes me wonder what the point is.
It just seemed like a bad D&D attempt to me.... pick another game for game night.... (Posted on 9/21/10) - Classic Game Review by Brian

Talisman is a game where you build up the character you play through collecting cards and “defeating” monsters and other characters. If you have played any of the old editions of the game it will seem very familiar. The game has its charm and is fun when you are collecting and on the winning outcome. Although there are characters that are not balanced too well, for the most part most of them work well.Price Value Quality
One negative to the game is that is takes a long time to play as players build up slowly for the ultimate showdown for the crown of command. There are alternate rules to speed up game play so that is not too much of an issue. If you like a game of fantasy with swords and spells this game is good, if you are not into the whole fantasy game and want a more family game you might want to skip this game. Roll and move. Roll and fight. Wait. Roll and move. Roll and fight. Wait. Ad infintinum. Review by TR

Too luck based, too few actual decisions to be made for my taste. On the other hand, those who played it when they were young love it for the nostalgia value and it's so simple, you could probably drag anyone into it.
Note the quality is for the old Black Industries pieces, not the new FFG game. (Posted on 12/5/08)
