Bacchus' Banquet is a very simple game, with very little additional complexity to it, making it a good filler or an introductory game for beginners. In Bacchus' Banquet, each player gets a specific Roman Senator to play, each of whom have a specific goal to win the game.Quality Price Value
These goals could be as simple as gorging themselves on food to gaining the most presents to murdering Caligula himself. Game rules are simple and revolve around giving and receiving cards. There are 7 Action Cards dealt on the table, and the active player (Caligula himself in the beginning) draws 3 cards, keeps 1, discards 1 and must 'gift' the 3rd card to another player. If the player refuses the 'gift', the currently active player must take the gift card back. The round is then over and whoever received the 'gift' card is the new active player. If a player has 2 less 'gifts' than other players, he may then automatically take a gift card and become the active player.
Action cards come in a variety of forms from food, poison, wine and presents to daggers and exercise cards. Many of these cards will move the 'buckle' of the player receiving the game, with a maximum 'buckle' amount of 10. Any higher and the player dies and must get a new character.
As can be seen, Bacchus Banquet mostly revolves around bluffing and deduction. Each player is trying to achieve his final goal while attempting to stop other players, forcing them to decide what gifts to give and keep each turn. With each game only taking 30 minutes at most, this is a fast moving card game suitable for up to 5 players. (Posted on 11/3/09)
