Frankly put, I personally don't see too much point in grabbing this kit. Essentially included in this kit is the inter-locking frame found in the 4th edition and some chips to randomize trading ports. There are perhaps two reasons why you may feel the urge to get this kit:

1. You are a constant victim to sloppy boards and table bumping.

2. You got 4th edition version of an expansion and don't quite know how to put a frame together.

While I can understand if you're suffering from the first point, if you feel that ten dollars is not too much to pay for some convenience and less headache, then by all means, pick this kit up and enjoy. If you're not too keen on the kit but feel the need to use the frame expanders included with your 4th edition expansions, I would say sit tight and get creative in how you use or don't use the frame ocean tiles.

The quality of the components is what you would expect from Mayfair. This kit includes on a few punch-out sheets for the frames and trading post chips. It is shrink wrapped with a black and white print out included with it. While not very presentable, the lack of unnecessary presentation probably saves you a few bucks as well.

I personally don't recommend getting this kit as ten dollars is often 25% of a new board game. However, different people will see different values in things and if you really need a solid frame for your Settler games, then don't let me stop you. (Posted on 12/20/08)
