- Good but not Great Review by Thomas
-
As a psuedo wargame, Senji doesn't really live up to what it should be. The title should really be Senji, a card trading game. Now don't get me wrong. Senji is a wonderful game full of choices and decisions that require thinking and strategy. However as a territory acquisition type game it is lacking. The battles leave somethings to be desired and can end up being army massing without much actual "war".Price Value Quality
Pros
- wonderful art work and components. I personally love the art on the board and cards. I also love the little samurai.
- high levels of player interaction (mostly due to the trading of "hanafuda" cards)
- theme: Senji is brimming over to the point of drowning with theme that is not only historically but also culturally accurate
- teachability: Senji is fairly easy to learn and fairly easy to teach while still retaining a high level of strategic complexity
Cons
- limited actual "war"
- can suffer drastically if one or more players has analysis paralysis
- lots of game parts - tends to scare of new players immediately
- lengthy game for a psuedo wargame
Overall, Senji is a good game with wonderful components. It is definitely worth the price tag but may or may not be the game you are looking for. (Posted on 7/8/10)
