Munchkin Quest is definitely not a game for everyone but for people who like Munchkin it is a super fun game. Also if you are used to playing RPGs than you will get lots of the in-game humour that parodies RPGs. I love the dungeon crawling feel of the game with having to place a new piece of the dungeon every time you explore. The combat against monsters can also be quite entertaining.

There are a lot of game components and they are mostly all of great quality and look very good. My one big problem is the rulebook. It is very ambiguous and some of the rules are very unclear, but once you've played the game a couple of times it should run pretty smoothly. (Posted on 12/20/11)

While I would call Munchkin Quest an improvement over straight up Munchkin in many ways, there are also many ways that this game can stand to improve. The game is very easy to pick up, even if you have not played Munchkin before (though it is easier still if you have), but several of the mechanics are annoying, or even broken. Still a good game overall, but unless you really love Munchkin, the price may seem a little steep for the quality of gameplay. (Posted on 10/7/11)

In Munchkin quest you must explore a dungeon kill the monster steal the loot and back stab your friends to win the game. The dungeon is random tile which make every game different. Also the humor present in the card game is also very present in this game.

But the game is also somewhat confusing. The rules are a little vague on a few subjects and the cards, weapons, rooms all alter the rules in a way or another. Also if you do back stab you fellow gamers it can make the game last a lot longer.

If Munchkin can do no wrong then this is a game for you, if not then stay away. (Posted on 4/8/10)

Munchkin Quest is really suited to Munchkin fans. It brings in a good amount of new stuff while keeping the spirit of the game alive. Gameplay wise, it is essentially the same as the original Munchkin card game with all of its expansions.

Notably, the modular room creation system is not unlike playing Demented Dungeons. As you unlock a new room, you draw a random tile from the room tiles and place it down. That room has a particular effect that affects everything inside of it. Additionally, it almost always have a monster.

Monsters are drawn from a deck of cards and its token is placed on the board. A color dice is rolled to determine which player that monster is targeting. It is good to have monsters targetting you as you gain cards and a bonus for beating them. However, if a high level monster is targeting you, you must move through the dungeon carefully to avoid being stuck in the same room as it.

There are lots of little parts to the game that takes a while to organize and rummage through. This can be a bit of a pain as it slows down the game. Overall, though, it plays the same as your usual Munchkin game. There are three decks instead of two, with a Monster deck and Deus Ex Machina deck replacing the door cards. The goal is still to get to level 10 and you must do your best to thwart the other player's battles.

Depending on how you play, games can be completed fairly quickly or take a long time. Typically, once a player gets on a roll and hits the higher end levels, it can be difficult to stop them. As such, the beginning and middle parts of the game tend to drag on a bit as people aim to prevent each other from reaching that upper level. But this is typical of Munchkin in general and most repeat players will know what they are getting into.

If you are a big Munchkin fan and are looking for something different but familiar to try out with your group, this is a great game for you. On the plus side, you can actually play this with two players without using any variations. In fact, its 4 player limit may actually deter you a bit if you have a big group, but otherwise, for Munchkin fans, it's a good buy. (Posted on 10/2/09)

Munchkin Quest is a Munchkin game, and fans of the series will love it for what it is. Other players might find the game somewhat long and lacking in subtlety, but then again, Munchkin has never been for everyone.

Munchkin Quest keeps many of the same rules of the original game, allowing players familiar with the game to jump in very quickly. With new rules for movement and tiny stands for the monsters, players no longer have to imagine the dungeon they are exploring, instead getting a chance to create it in actuality. This will definitely provide D&D fans a thrill to watch the dungeon unfold, along with the zany humour of the games and off-beat puns.

However, players are warned that Munchkin Quest is a tad too rule-driven, with many minor rules (from the type of movement different monsters have represented by icons, to room specific bonuses and weaknesses for classes) that complicate what should be a fast romp through the dungeon. In this, Munchkin and Order of the Stick are together - they soon overstay their welcome as they get bogged down in numerous rules. Both would do better with faster gameplay, a factor easily solved by house rules in our view.

Overall, this is a great addition for fans of the Munchkin game. For those looking for a real dungeon crawler, perhaps shelling a few dollars more for Descent would be appropriate. (Posted on 3/24/09)
