Cosmic Encounter is one of the most entertaining games I've played in a long time. I would recommend never playing Cosmic Encounter with players who don't like conflict as this game is full of it.

The general point of the game is to be the first player(s) to colonize on five other planets (not in your own galaxy). Each turn you pick a card which tells you which opponent you are to attack. You, as the attacker, have the option to take on allies to assist you in attacking your opponent. The defender also has the choice to take on anyone who might want to help them defend their planet. Once that's all sorted, both the attacker and the defender secretly play an attack card. Whoever plays the highest card winds the battle.

There are many more variants in the game as well such as Alien powers, power cards, negotiate cards etc... All in all this is a very fun game with lots of player interaction.
