Product Description

Theme: Richard III: The Wars of the Roses covers the period of the War of the Roses where the houses of Lancaster and York battle for the throne of England. The game takes place across the entire campaign between the two houses, taking in both the politics and the military campaigns waged by both noble houses. Richard III : War of the Roses is populated with historical figures like Henry VI, Henry Tudor (Henry VII), Edward IV, Richard III, Warwick the Kingmaker and more.

Gameplay: In Richard III - the War of the Roses, players take on the roles of either the House of York or Lancaster. During the game, only one player will be King at a time, with the other player attempting to usurp the throne and win.

Gameplay in the War of the Roses takes place over 3 campaigns, each of which have 7 turns. Each turn has 4 phases - the card, action, battle and supply phase. At the end of each Campaign, an eight turn occurs- the political turn.

In each regular turn, players move and rectruit their 'blocks' (their various army pieces) from their home bases across the board, attempting to gain control of various duchies and sea lanes across the board. Battles are decided by dice rolls, with movement influenced by the geography of the board (as indicated by simple coloured lines).

An easy to learn gameplay system allows even beginner wargamers to learn to play quickly, while the innovative and award winning mechanics of Hammer of the Scots is rethemed for the game. Overall, Richard III - War of the Roses is the perfect gateway wargame.
