Theme : In Shogun, players take on the role of Japanese lords in 16th-century Japan. Here, players attempt to secure a position of dominance for their respective clans to become the most successful Daimyo and thus Shogun of all Japan.

Gameplay : In Shogun, players must manage their resources to build buildings and occupy counties. Players begin with control of a set of counties occupied by their troops. Each round, 10 action cards are laid out in random order, with players deciding on which county the action will be executed on. Examples of actions include - acquire gold or grain, buy armies or buildings or attack a neighbor. To fight, players include their armies into the Combat Tower - a specially built construct which randomizes the order of battle. The dominant color that emerges wins and the winner gains control of the county. With unknown cards, one action available per county per turn and multiple roads to victory, this is a great strategic game.
