Starfarers of Catan

Theme : Starfarers of Catan is the award winning Settlers of Catan series in space. While keeping the resource and colony development aspects of Settlers of Catan, Starfarers has added the 'Mothership' which now brings a new level of resource hoarding and strategy to the game, with necessary developments of movement points, weapons and cargo space. A fun filled expansion for fans of the Settlers of Catan series.

Gameplay : The Starfarers of Catan is an stand-alone variant of Settlers of Catan. Players begin the game with colonies and a port around a series of numbered planets. Resources are collected in the manner of Settlers but there is an introduction of the "Mothership" for exploration.

Using the mothership, you can use a small coloured ball (located where the flames would be) to move across the board. Each turn, you shake the ball to see what colour balls fall-out. Red, yellow or blue balls allow movement of your little ships across the board while a black ball generates an adventure. Adventures offer a chance to gain reputation (Victory points) and to trade or fight off pirates.

Players can furthermore land ships on alien planets to trade or colonise planets to create ports, allowing movement of their ships faster throughout the system.

Overall, Starfarers of Catan is a slightly more complex version of Settlers with new rules and systems in play to bring the colonising and exploration themes into clearer focus.
