Starship Catan

Theme : Starship Catan is a two-player card game of interstellar exploration. In Starship Catan, players move through decks of cards searching for colonies, trade deals with aliens and other aventures while fighting off or avoiding pirates. Based on the popular Starfarers of Catan game, Starship Catan is a strategic, card game version of the board game.

Gameplay : In Starship Catan, players gain a mothership that they must slowly upgrade throughout the game. During initial set-up, players receive a home planet that provides either fuel or carbon on a roll of 1. They further add two boosters and two cannons to their ship, features which can be later upgraded along with cargo space.

Play in Starship Catan progresses through the Resource Collection phase (as always with Catan games, through a die roll), the Flight Phase, the Combat Phase and the Trading and Building Phase.

During the Flight Phase, players can flip as many cards from one of the four sector decks as they have boosters and resources generated that turn. Players begin the game with only two actions they can take though, so they must be careful of which colonies to explore or trade with, or missions on planets to undertake. All of which provide the necessary Victory Points to win.

Overall, the Starship Catan card game is a strategic 2-player game of Catan set in space. Players familiar with either Settlers of Catan or Starfarers of Catan will pick this game up quickly, while the exploration and development of the motership adds an interesting new element to the game.
