Product Description

Theme : In the Stone Age, life was tough for our distant ancestors. Hunger was a constant companion and shelter difficult to find. Only the tribe of our Stone Age fore-bearers kept the individual tribe safe and prosperous as they teetered on the edge of extinction. Yet, the progress of civilisation occurred as buildings were put up, new tools were found and agriculture understood.

In Stone Age, the players will take on the role of the tribe elder, directing the tribe members to hunt, farm, build tools and gather resources as necessary. You'll need to trade freely, expand your village and search for resources to reach new levels of civilisation in the Stone Age.With just a little luck and a lot of planning, you'll be able to feed your tribe and be the most prosperous and largest.

Gameplay: Stone Age is a well designed game that works well with its full play range. In Stone Age, players control a tribe of stone age hunter - gatherers of five figures in the beginning. Each turn, they must allocate these figures to gathering resources, hunting for food, procreating, making tools or gaining victory points via buildings or civilisation cards.

Figures dedicated to hunting or gathering resources roll a number of dice equal to the number of figures. The resulting total of the dice is divided by the difficulty of the item being gathered / hunted, thus forcing players to dedicate more figures for hard to gather items like Gold.

With victory points generated immediately from completing buildings or at the end game through civilisation cards, players in Stone Age have multiple routes to victory. In addition, as the tribe must be fed each turn, players must balance growing their tribe, developing a food source via agriculture or constant hunting and making tools to make gathering and hunting easier.

Overall, Stone Age is easy to teach and moderately quick to play but with many interesting strategic and tactical decisions throughout the game. This makes Stone Age a great gateway game for the entire family.

  10. Stone Age is definitely a great light to medium strategy game - it could potentially be introduced to advanced beginners and will scratch the vast majority of strategy player’s itches. While not as ‘heavy’ as other more intense resource management game Review by TR (Posted on 12/8/08)
