Product Description
Theme : In Catan : The Struggle of Rome, you rule one of the many barbarian hordes struggling in the wake of the fall of the Roman Empire. Players must first pillage the cities of Rome, garnering points and gold before settling down and expanding their empire. As in all Settlers of Catan games, there are multiple routes to victory, but The Struggle of Rome's altered rules on dice rolling (resource gathering), movement and event cards has made the world of Catan even better. One of our favorite games in the Settlers of Catan award winning line.
Gameplay : Catan : Struggle for Rome is a stand-alone game from the Catan Histories series of games. In Struggle for Rome, players take on the role of one of four marauding tribes seeking to conquer and claim the glory of Rome for themselves.
Play takes place on a board of Europe in Struggle for Rome with players starting on the Eastern edges of the country. Players begin with 2 barbarian tribes, able to move across two arrows (depicted on the board) each turn. Resources are gained for hexes that the tribes are close to, and tribes may either increase the size of their train (for greater movement) or warriors (to pillage towns).
Various towns and cities sit across the border, awaiting the pillaging and ransacking by players in Struggle for Rome. Players doing so risk losing me but various resources and victory points await the successful tribe. Furthermore, the most successful horde will win additional victory points.
The second part of the game arises when tribes decide to settle, taking over a formerly pillaged/ransacked town. Now the Struggle for Rome players much like former Settlers of Catan games where players slowly build out their cities, drawing resources from the conquered cities. The first player to 10 Victory Points will win Struggle for Rome.
