Theme: Tikal is a board game of architecture and exploration of Central America. Once a Mayan city of great beauty, Tikal now lies in ruins. Players journey through the jungles of Central America in search of lost temples and treasures. Players will need to decide whether to explore further to uncover more temples or to control the temples they have already found.
Gameplay: Players start Tikal from a small clearing in a corner of the board, using the hexagonal tiles to explore the jungle. Each turn, the players have 10 Action Points to use, with the ability to undertake any of these actions (for varying costs): bringing workers into a base camp, moving them from camp to camp, moving them from hex to hex, excavating either a treasure or temple, swapping a treasure with another player, building a new camp, or staking a sole claim to a temple.
In Tikal, the scoring session for each temple is before turns, it is possible for players to all score on the same temple through careful use of resources. Well known for it's deep considerations and logical build-ups, Tikal is a game for those who are interested in in-depth strategic and tactical choices.
