Product Description
Theme: In Traders of Carthage, players buy and sell goods to move between the city of Carthage and Alexandria. As traders, you have four goods and shipping vessels that you can buy and sell on, each of which will provide you points for the end game. The most wily trader who avoids the pirates and delivers the most goods wins Traders of Carthage.
Gameplay: In Traders of Carthage, players can buy and sell four goods - grapes, silk, jewels, and wheat. Each time a good is bought from the market, the corresponding good ship moves a corresponding number of spaces along to Carthage from Alexandria. Each time a good ship arrives in Carthage, the goods on the ship are sold for points and players awarded an achievement chip. The game ends when a single player receives 8 achievement chips, with the player with the highest number of victory points the winner.
Traders of Carthage adds an element of strategy to the game in two major areas - firstly, the market. In the market, a series of 5 good cards are shown face-up. Players can then decide on their turn to either reserve a card, take a card for its value as cash or buy the market (whatever is remaining). If a market is bought, the good ships move along to Carthage and a new market is created. As such, players must balance gaining cash to purchase items, reserving specific goods for their own use or buying the market but potentially helping their rivals.
In addition, when a good ship arrives in Carthage, all remaining ships stand a chance of being attacked by Pirates (indicated by the Pirate squares on the board). Ships on those spaces lose their goods, which adds an element of interaction and cutthroat bidding to Traders of Carthage.
A fun, simple card game, Traders of Carthage is a combination of a racing game and a hand management / market manipulation game that will thrill most players.
