Product Description
Theme : In Unspeakable Words, players must decode the ancient secrets of R'yleh while trying to stay sane. This Cthulhu-inspired card game makes players create new, unspeakable words through the angles in the words written on each card, deriving greater and greater power from the number of angles present per word. Be careful though! each word has the potential to drive the player insane!
Gameplay : In Unspeakable Words, each player gets 7 cards and 5 sanity tokens at the beginning of the game. These cards have normal alphabetical letters on them with a score depending on the angles of each letter. Players must then try to spell words (normal one's) using the cards and try to score the most points. However, player must roll a d20 and achieve a higher number than the value of the word spelled to keep their sanity (and avoid losing a sanity token). At the end of each turn, players refill their hands to 7 cards. The first player to 100 points without going crazy wins.
A Cthulhu-themed word game, Unspeakable Words has a lot of optional scenarios available - both officially in the rules as well as house rules (adding more cards to the hand for example).

This game could drive you insane but, not in the good Lovecraftian way. Review by Anthony Santiago (Posted on 12/10/08)
