Theme : In Zooloretto each player uses small, large, wild and exotic animals and their young to try and attract as many visitors as possible to their zoo. But be careful - the zoo must be carefully planned. Before you know it, you will have too many animals and no more room for them, which means they'll have to be sent away, losing you points. So you better be ready to expand.
Gameplay: Zooloretto is the board game version of the award winning Coloretto. In Zooloretto, players start the game with 3 enclosures of varying sizes.
In each round, each player will take turns drawing a tile (which might be an animal, a vendor stall, or a coin) and placing the tile on a truck, where each truck has 3 spaces only. Instead of drawing a tile, they may take a truck and its contents, with the number of trucks available equal to the number of players.
Once every player has taken a truck, the players then allocate the tiles to their enclosures in their zoos. To score the most points in Zooloretto, players will want to fill each enclosure with one type of animal However, points can be generated for partially-filled enclosures, especially if there is a vendor stall next to the enclosure. You also lose points if you have animals that you cannot place in an enclosure.
In Zooloretto, the coins from the trucks are used to expand their zoo, buy unplaced animals from other players, discard animals from their own barn, or re-arrange their own zoo. These "money actions" do take the place of a regular draw/claim action.
Lastly, in Zooloretto, a few of the animal tiles are marked as fertile males or females. If a player claims a "breeding pair" (a fertile male and female of the same species), they receive a free baby animal tile, which counts the same as a regular animal for scoring purposes.
Zooloretto is a fun family game that has some great strategic and tactical depth and is a certain hit for families.
